Spanish Almonds:

Almonds or “Almendras” are a very popular stone fruit in Spain and the Spanish believe that eating five almonds a day will keep you healthy. The most common variety grown in Spain is the Marcona which is a sweet and delicate in texture almond.

In Spain almonds are grown inland from the Costa's in valleys and almond groves are often mixed up with olive groves. February is a fantastic month to visit almond grove areas as the blossoms burst forth from the tree branches and the valleys become a sea of pink blossoms.

Almonds are used in many Spanish dishes and deserts. Turron is a traditional Spanish sweet eaten at Christmas which is made from almonds and honey and is like nougat. They are rich in vitamins and minerals and the Chinese consider them to be a symbol for female beauty.
